So much for a nice quiet day

I was really hoping for a nice quiet day today. Head off to the market in the morning and then spend the rest of the day doing things around the house like drawing or cooking and even some cleaning...

Instead we ended up running around to all kinds of places looking for sharpie markers and ribbons.

First it was to a Curry's where we were hoping to get some sharpie markers that Talia needs to do some wig dyeing. I don't know all the details on how it's done but it involved 70% alcohol and soaking the ink out of the marker. Sadly Curry's failed us and they didn't have the individual markers, just the packs of 10 or 15 different colours. That really sucked because Talia only needed 2 colours (pink and a purple) but she needed 3-4 of a given colour in order to dye the hair.

So once Curry's failed us we decided to go to an independent art store that was farther down queen. It turns out that that store has actually been taken over by Curry's but thankfully they had the individual markers :) While Talia was picking out which colours to get I started wandering around the store looking at their sketch books. A couple of weeks ago I picked up a "How to Draw" type book and one of the things that it suggested was to keep a sketch diary in which you doodle and stuff but not for anyone to see, just as a record of your days. So I was looking for a smaller book that I could perhaps take with me in my pocket. Thankfully I found one and it was pretty cheap too.

Just as I was about to check out of the store I remembered that I also had to get a natural fibre brush to use with my cheese making. Most synthetic brushes will melt when you melt the wax. So I quickly ran off to look for brushes and ended up finding (with help from the store clerks) a nice boar hair brush. It was a little price (~ $11 or so) but hopefully it will be well worth it. Tomorrow I plan to make some farmhouse cheddar :)

From the art store it was off to the Eaton's centre. The last couple of weeks I have been watching YouTube videos from a group of friends that call themselves SORTED (sortedfood.com). While we were at the market in the morning I was telling Talia about them (she is probably quite sick of me babbling on about them) and she suggested checking if they had a book or anything. So when we got back from the market I jumped on the web and found out they do indeed have a book and even better than that, they have a book in a Canadian book store. Specifically the Indigo at the Eaton's Centre. So after looking around for a bit in the book store we found it and it wasn't badly priced. A about $4 more expensive that from bookdepository.com but I wouldn't have to wait 2-4 weeks for it to arrive so I decided to pick it up.

Now, while we were looking for the book I also noticed a really cool book holder for the kitchen. It's a nice looking wood thing designed to keep books open and in a readable angle while you are cutting and chopping things up. In the past I have just laid my books down on the counter but this takes up a lot of very valuable space and often ends up with pics of sticky things all over the pages. You can always tell which of the recipes in books are our favourites because they are the ones with the most splatters. So after finding the cookbook (Beginners get.... SORTED) I showed Talia the book holder and she loved it as much as me. So that jumped into our bag as well.

Now while we were looking and deciding on the book holder Talia saw yet another book that was yelling to come home with us. It is a book about cheese making by the person behind all the cheese kits I have. So that jumped into our bag as well.

(with my new cheese waxing brush)
Finally while we were lining up to buy our books I noticed a Macaroon book and as you may have guessed that had to come home with us as well.

Now by this time it was pretty late and both Talia and I were getting a little hungry so we quickly stopped by the food court from some bad for you but oh so tasty veggie works and then it was of home.... almost.

For the last week Talia has been reading books on making these really beautiful flowers out of ribbons and this week Michael's was having a sale on ribbons. Thankfully Michael's is only a small detour on our way home.

So now its well past 8 and we are both exhausted. I had been hoping to make some cheese and yogurt but that will have to wait until tomorrow. For tonight I am going to relax and read some of my new books. And who knows, maybe I will add my first entry into my sketch diary

:)
